The human spirit tends to take the road well traveled, it wants what comes easy. This is why when a man actually does something unique or veers off the beaten path, he is considered odd, eccentric, perhaps even crazy. However, when this same man succeeds, he is then labeled a genius or special. But lets get this straight, such a man is never, ever thought of as normal in human terms.
I wrote the above reply to some bleeding heart who posted a ridiculous comment affirming the enduring character of the human spirit and who also accused me of being a part of the poverty problem because I advocate not only the importance of making opportunities accessible to all but also the equal importance of making smart use of such opportunities to avoid being poor. I then proceeded to add a few toughly worded statements to support my take on the human condition and shook my head at the guy’s audacity to make such melodramatic claims about me.
I don’t know what is more irritating to me: The fact that five long days after the elections, people are still posting far left leaning political photos on Facebook or only five short days since the elections, left-toppling liberals, who can’t leave well enough alone, want to exploit President Obama’s victory by comparing the U.S. to Sweden in a plea for complete, socialistic, wealth redistribution.
I have spent a year re-posting, counter posting and commenting on political photos, links and status remarks while completely focused on the re-election of President Barack Obama. I have stood along side people with whom I had little in common other than the fiscal importance this race pressed upon us.
Beating up the Republicans was easy. Their complaints about Obama had nothing to do with real issues but with myths and innuendos in respect to his name, his race or both. There were so many conspiracy theories and accusations of treason over some imaginary Arab symbol on President Obama’s wedding band, his associations with liberal people from his past, him bowing to middle eastern kings or alleged hidden agendas surrounding the terrorist attach on the U.S. embassy in Libya that the whole social network debate was laughable. While the republican true believers were asserting that President Obama will soon implement sharia law and force Americans to bow down to a mural of a black Jesus fist bumping Mohammed (or something similar to that), We rode them hard for their shortsighted, shallow politics, not hesitating to use the stupid card now and then.
But… just like the right has its extremists and bigots, the left also has a few antagonists in their camp. Now, emboldened by an Obama Presidential win, the extreme wackos of the left have come out of the woodwork to share their impossible ideas and their ridiculous demands.
In what universe do these people think a second term for President Obama was a signal to come out of their communes and speak?
To the rabbit food eating socialists: Get this through your granite skull: America’s political leaning is slightly right of center.
Firstly… we are omnivores. We love our canine teeth so much, we have built a several billion dollar marketing machine around all things vampire. Our novels, magazines, comics and movies are full of good looking, broody, undead humans with large canines. Our daughters have all fallen in love with a 160 year old, teenage metro-sexual with pale, sparkly skin and massive, pointy teeth. To the majority of us Americans, P.E.T.A. stands for People Eating Tasty Animals and the best thing any activist can do for us is ensure the beef and chicken ranchers back away from the estrogen and synthetic growth hormones.
If I have offended the conscientious vegans, good. You really need to get a life… and eat some protein. I so relished typing that, I think I’ll have some prosciutto.
We are middle class and many of us like our jobs. We are not a bunch of exploited laborers from a John Steinbeck novel. We Americans tend to excel at doing things we like to do, so we support equal opportunity for everyone to excel in his chosen profession.
Equal opportunity is the key. Its the only fair thing. We don’t mind the rich getting richer, we mind it when there is no on ramp to the road of prosperity available to the not so rich. Poor students should be able to get the grants or government guaranteed loans needed to go to college or trade school. People needing to be retrained out of obsolete careers into better paying ones should have access to such job training but we do not appreciate heavily taxing those who study, work hard and are therefore fortunate in life in order to raise the lifestyles of ne`er-do-wells, dropouts and screw ups.
The state should offer a step-ladder not a hammock.
Corporations, in every form need supervision and regulations. We take seriously the saying: “The love of money is the root of all sorts of evil.” and the saying: “The heart is deceitfully wicked above all things, who can trust it?” We know that when faced with doing the right thing over doing the easy or profitable thing, it is in the nature, the dna of most of us to take the easy road to profit. We do not trust that the individual motivated by profit will automatically do the right thing unless he is watched closely. We are not so stupid to trust that the typical insurance company will not shaft us as soon as we really need them. We are not so naive to assume the typical plant or factory will not dump toxins into our water table or mercilessly pollute our air if not supervised and regulated. By this same token, we also do not trust the bureaucrat to make all things perfect for us, nor are we on board with outlawing all motor driven machinery and eliminating all forms of power usage and going back to living in log cabins and riding wooden bicycles. Forget about it!
We did not all vote for President Obama because we thought women’s wombs were being unfairly treated, even though a couple of congressional candidates were clearly idiots. Most of us, when asked, will honestly state that an unconscionable majority of abortions are selfish, narcissistic choices having nothing to do with the life or health of the mother, nor rape or incest and having had no forethought about the father or would be grandparents. They far outnumber those choices done with the tears and introspection one would expect when making or witnessing such a big, dark decision. We just feel helpless to address this malady and have surrendered to the idea that there are things worse than death for these unwanted children. We can not legislate unselfish hearts into existence and being selfish ourselves, we just don’t want the extraneous evil baggage a pro-birth candidate may bring with him.
Our choice for president was not an overwhelming nod for same sex marriage. We simply don’t think Caesar (the government) is qualified to enforce sexual morality. We also don’t think the state should touch the definition of marriage to either append a same sex rider or affirm tradition. Both acts of legislation, in our opinion is the state respecting or denying a religious exercise.
We do strongly believe, however, that denying a person’s domestic partner hospital visitation, death benefits or dependency benefits is just wrong… In every alternate universe, it is wrong and this is what the government needs to fix. Same sex couples pay taxes and are therefore entitled to government protection of their rights and civil liberties.
So, if some kind of certificate is required for these benefits, let there be civil unions.
While we are not all goose stepping, gun toting hot heads we are neither lotus sitting, hyper apologetic peace-nicks. We don’t run around looking for fights but we Americans know that sometimes, you must punch the bully in the nose if you want lasting peace in your life. So, for us, going into Afghanistan to find Bin Laden was the right thing to do but rushing into Iraq was, on second thought, rash and questionable. This being said, The greatest country on the planet will always be a target for some nut with balls that are bigger than his brain. Therefore, we need our war machines, just in case someone’s nose is just aching for firm touch.
Like I have over a course of 28 years and Mitt Romney had over the course of 8 weeks, America has struggled with its political identity. In an attempt to get it all right, our country has allowed her political pendulum to swing in both directions before finally letting it fall just right of center.
Where it should be…
If you agree, then this is our manifesto.
